Tai Chi Swords and Tai Chi Sabres
Our authentic Tai Chi sword and Tai Chi sabre are provided by Mr Damon Bramich who is a Yang style Tai Chi Chuan teacher. Mr Bramich regularly travels to China to study and practise Tai Chi with the Yang family. He brings high quality, authentic, Yang family swords and sabres back to Australia. These Yang family swords and sabres are used by Tai Chi enthuiasts who want only the best.
The Tai Chi sabre (called Dao) has a curved single edged blade. The Tai Chi Sabre is ancient, dating from China's Shang Dynasty 1766 - 1122 BC. The Tai Chi sabre was originally made of bronze but was later made of iron or steel. Most martial arts schools use the Tai Chi sabre or Tai Chi Dao extensively in practice and training. The skills learned when using the Tai Chi sabre are transferrable to other common objects (sticks, baseball bats) if the need for self-defence arises.
The Tai Chi sword (called Jian) is a straight sword with double-edged blade. The Tai Chi Jian dates from the 7th centuary BC. The Yang family considers the Tai Chi sword to be one of the short weapons to be used in bare hand practice. Using the Tai Chi sword during practice creates a strong sense of doing a beautiful and graceful sword dance. The learner who practices with a sword can enter the realm of pleasure and self-fulfillment which in turn creates mental and physical wellbeing.
